In the last 50 years the food we have available has dramatically changed. The USA has dropped in the ranking of healthiest nations from #38 in 2000 to at present we are #72 of the 190 countries on the list. Do you think there is a connection? We will learn about what some of the common terms like ‘enriched’, ‘fortified’ and ‘organic’ mean. We will also look into the truth about supplements and what the government says is necessary for minimum daily nutritional intake. You might discover your family’s food is ready for a makeover!

‘Triple Benefits’ of attending!

  1. You’ll gain tools to better nourish your family
  2. Support for ARROAutism
  3. Help to stop childhood malnutrition worldwide

Thanks to you

Sean’s Run began in 2007 as a community event, and as a minor fundraiser, raising money for small projects. Today it stands as the signature fundraising event for ARROAutism, whose projects include the ARROAutism Community Center in Beaverton, an annual Holiday Family Assistance Project, Autism Research and more. Thanks to all the donors, volunteers, sponsors, and your participation in this year’s run, we were able to raise approximately $8000 to continue to provide these invaluable services to the community.

We hope you had a fantastic time at this year’s run, and we can’t tell you enough how important a difference you make to the community at large.

Have a great year of running, and we look forward to seeing you again next year!

Can I register on the Day of Sean’s Run for ARROAutism?

YES – you can register at the event!

Pre-registrations are a critical path to the success of Sean’s Run for ARROAutism. Not only do those early registrations help us raise money for out of pocket costs like insurance and permits, but they also give us an idea of how many people to provide (and budget) for, especially critical items like t-shirts and bibs.

Since we’re still growing, we are still able to provide for registrations in cash, with a credit card, or a check, at the event. This applies to both Walkers and Runners.

It’s HERE! Sean’s Run is HERE!

Sean's Run for ARROAutism 2013 with SponsorsYou’ve waited. We’ve worked. And now, here we are – the day of Sean’s Run is upon us! And we are REALLY excited about this year’s run!

Our Best Year for Corporate Sponsorship

We have a great lineup of corporate sponsors, including New Seasons Markets, Umpqua Bank, The Green Microgym, Mass Mutual, The Evergreen Center, Mannatech and, returning for the third year in a row, Reliv! We have also received direct donations from Arthur Erikson Antiques and the Lake Oswego Rotary!

We are thrilled to announce that, for the first time in the history of Sean’s Run, Corporate Sponsorship and direct donations have covered roughly 90% of the cost of producing this year’s run! That means that every runner or walker who registers, every sweatshirt purchased, every raffle ticket purchased, will go directly to our mission of bringing resources together for the Autism Community.

What does Sean’s Run raise money for?

ARROAutism Logo Ice SquareOne of the principal projects of ARROAutism is the ARROAutism Westside Family and Community Center in Beaverton, Oregon. Thanks to your ongoing support and money from grants, things at the Community Center are coming together! We have made a host of improvements including better electrical wiring and a new dimmable LED trough light. We have also been able to host a wide range of Community Events, including a fitness group, Beaverton Friends of Music, Filipino American Friendship Club of Oregon, Autistic Community Activity Program, monthly Autism family socials, an Autism Dads and men’s group, Autism Panel discussions, lectures, Economic Fairness of Oregon and much, much more!

Times they are a changing

This, the 7th year of Sean’s Run, will be an historic year for Sean’s Run. Each year we’ve learned, and applied those lessons. Come see for yourself how that is translating into a great event for you. And, you’ll hear an announcement about how things will be changing for next year.

On a separate note, we will be taking a moment at this year’s run to recognize the events of the Boston Marathon. Runners and walkers alike will have the option to individually recognize Boston. Our hearts go out all those who have been affected by the tragedy, and support to all who are still recovering.

THANK YOU!

Finally, to all of you who have supported us here at Sean’s Run, either once, or many times over the last 7 years, THANK YOU! You have helped to improve the lives of families with Autism many times over.

Still time to sign up!

It’s true! There’s still time to sign up. You can still sign up online up through tonight, and you can register for either the run or the walk at the registration desk. Registration opens at 9AM at Oak’s Park. While you’re there, check out the Sean’s Run Apparel, buy some raffle tickets, meet Sean, buy discounted Ride Bracelets for Oaks Park, and, most importantly, HAVE FUN! 🙂

AUTISM AWARENESS DAY, FRIDAY, MARCH 22nd, 2013 at the CAPITOL BUILDING

Come out and support Autism Health Insurance Reform!

AUTISM AWARENESS DAY, FRIDAY, MARCH 22nd, at the CAPITOL BUILDING, 900 NE COURT STREET, SALEM

We need your support NOW if we are going to make autism health insurance reform happen THIS YEAR. If not, it will be 2 more years before we have another chance to get legislation passed.

EVENTS:

9:00 am: Gather in Room 350 for information and to prepare to visit your legislators. This room will be open to us all day to rest and relax.
9:30 am- 12 noon: Visits with our legislators. (To find your legislator and contact info, click here.)
9:30 am – 12 noon: Information tables will be open in the Capitol Galleria.
NEW TIME! 12:30 pm: RALLY on the Capitol steps!
Note the new time for the Rally – at the request of legislators, we will start the rally at 12:30 PM (half an hour earlier that originally announced) so that some legislators can join us before their afternoon committee meetings.

If you will be upset if autism health insurance reform does not pass this year, make sure that your voice is heard at Autism Awareness Day.

If you haven’t already done so, please contact your state legislators in advance to make an appointment to see them. (To find your legislator and contact info, go to: http://www.leg.state.or.us/findlegsltr/). It doesn’t need to be long and you just need to state your support for autism health insurance reform (SB 365). Tell them your personal story, if you wish.

If you can’t attend, please call or email your state legislators this Friday, March 22nd to let them know of your support for autism health insurance reform (SB 365). All statements of support are very helpful!

Transportation – where to park?: Carpools and public transportation are strongly encouraged, but parking is available. The cheapest parking is in theYellow Lot, located on Center Street, between Winter & Summer Streets. The cost is $6 for the full day and the machines accept credit cards. It’s a short 2 block walk to the Capitol Building. But, this lot fills up early.

There are many street meters with times ranging from 3-10 hours. They take coins only and cost $1.50 per hour. The best option is to purchase a day pass in the Legislative Services Office in the basement of Capitol building. Cost is $8.00 for all day, cash only.

Kids – Bring them or not?: Kids are welcome to attend the event, and you will be with families that understand the challenges of having an autistic child in a public space. Although the Capitol is not set up as an incredibly fun place for kids, we have the following options:

We will have a place to sit and rest in Room 350, and have a quiet area set aside in the room. The windows can be latched but not locked.
There is a small cafeteria in the basement of the Capitol.
Across the street and on either side of the building, there are green areas to run around in, but no play equipment.
Tours of the Capitol Building will be available at 10:30 am and 2:00 pm. These are suitable for 4th graders and older.
Less than a 10 minute drive away is the Gilbert’s Discovery Village (click here for information) which has hands-on exhibits and a great outdoor play area. Check with them about their reciprocal admissions if you have a membership to another Children’s Museum.
Need help, or have questions? Contact the Autism Society of Oregon’s office by phone at 1-888-AUTISM-1 or send a message to Tobi Rates.

Hope to see you there! –

Sincerely,

Paul Terdal,

Parent Volunteer

Sean’s Run Race Timing

FAQ – Sean’s Run for ARROAutism is a Fun Run. As such, we provide a clock and record the times for your personal use, but we do not report these times to any sanctioned racing body. Distances are also as accurate as we can make them, but are, again, not official. As such, Sean’s Run is not considered an official race, and all timing should be considered unofficial as well.
